What does 'unlimited'
mean? Is it truly unlimited?
Although some of our services have exact usage
policies, and exact limitations on the account for time and storage,
the unlimited account is not like that. The Higher Technology
individual unlimited account has no preset quotas for resource
consumption. Our intention with no preset quota is to make our
services available to subscribers without undue concern on their
part regarding usage charges. Sometimes a subscriber will choose
to abuse our practice and consume resources beyond reasonable
expectations. When a particular subscriber displays such a behaviour
we may choose to impose exact quotas on the SPECIFIC subscriber.
We contact the subscriber and caution them that if the abuse continues
it will result in an EXACT quota being imposed on them.
Here at THT we expect that all unlimited users will remain within
the limit of acceptable usage. We define that as 250 hours per
month. If this amount of time is insufficient for your usage needs
please contact our offices and we will attempt to create a custom
package more suited to your specific needs.
Unfortunately the meaning of the term 'unlimited' is definitely
unclear when it is used in reference to online services, because
all such services and their provider have limitations. Knowledgeable
Internet users often associate the term 'unlimited' with frequent
busy signals, so we don't emphasize that our account is unlimited,
although there are no limitations. We have always tried, and always
will try to maintain enough dialup line capacity to assure that
access is NOT LIMITED BY BUSY SIGNALS due to inadequate
capacity even during peak evening hours. Unlimited subscribers
may access the Internet without undue concern for quotas and usage
charges.
