FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions

I am getting a server not found error when I try and get my e-mail

Resolution:

When you are setting up e-mail it is imperative that you tell your e-mail client where to find your mail. Therefore, the servers are for e-mail as follows. The SMTP or send mail transfer protocol is mail.tht.net and the pop3 or the incoming mail server is also mail.tht.net.

My email client is telling me that my password is invalid. What do I do?

Resolution:

On our server, small letters and capital letters are different as far as the server is concerned - meaning that 'john' and 'JOHN' are two different people. If your mail client is refusing your password, or it's failing on the login, make sure that your username and password are typed exactly as they were given to you - including any special characters and upper and lowercase letters.

Sometimes while I am trying to read my e-mail or a web-page I get disconnected for no reason

Resolution:

The server on our end is set to disconnect after 11 minutes when connection is idle. In other words, if you are not transferring data one way or the other for 11 minutes the server will disconnect you.

Why is the 'net so slow?

Resolution:

The speed of data transfer depends not only on the computer that you have dialed into (ours) but also on the speed of any computer that you are receiving data from (such as websites). If the computer on that end is slow, or heavily loaded, then data transfer to your home PC will be slowed down accordingly. If you find that a site is extremely slow, try again at a less busy time or find an alternate site. Busy times on the 'Net are usually between 6 pm and midnight or 1 am in North America.

Why did my computer suddenly stop connecting to properly?

Resolution:

If you have been able to connect before, and suddenly find that you can't, the first thing that you should try is resetting your modem. If your modem is external, you can simply turn it off and on again. If your modem is internal, you have to shut your computer down and turn the whole thing off to reset your modem completely. This should be the first thing that you try if your computer cannot connect - often the problem lies in your modem simply not resetting itself properly. If this does not resolve the problem, please contact Technical Support.
